I used these FMM Cutters. You could also do the same with round /circle cutters.

Method:

Here's a close up of the rose..

 Here's a smaller one on a cupcake but made without any cutters or tools. Free hand.
Yup, before I became a cake decorator, I made roses free hand.. Still do.. I think they are absolutely beautiful.
Some day I'll make a post on that and show you how I make mine.
